May 23, 2018, Portsmouth, NH — Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics is proud to announce its renewed accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR), which underscores its commitment to providing its patients with the highest level of medical imaging quality and safety. Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics has maintained ACR accreditation since opening its MRI department in 2008.

ACR accreditation demonstrates that Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics’ medical team, its procedures and technologies have been rigorously reviewed by ACR’s expert Board-Certified physicians and medical physicists and that it has met ACR’s strict standards for image quality, safety and staff qualifications as well as quality control and assurance.

“ACR accreditation is a voluntary process that Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics participates in due to our commitment to superior patient care and safety,” says Dr. Joshua A. Siegel, Director and Founding Member of Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics. “Our patients and referring physicians take comfort in knowing we meet ACR’s benchmarks for excellence.”

To obtain ACR accreditation, Access Sports & Orthopaedics had to show the ACR that it meets the following requirements:

  • All of its interpreting physicians, medical physicists and technologists have the necessary education and training
  • It delivers clear image quality
  • It maintains a documented quality control program
  • It meets MRI safety requirements
  • All of its MRI equipment meets state and federal requirements

Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics offers both traditional MRIs as well as open MRIs. Open MRI machines are designed with a pavilion-style shielding system that allows for the technologist to be in the same room as the patient during the scan. The MRI is open on all sides, which eliminates the confinement and claustrophobia patients sometimes experience with a closed MRI.

The ACR’s thorough review and accreditation of Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics’ radiologists and staff, as well as its equipment and services, gives its patients peace of mind. They know they are receiving the best possible diagnostic care.
