Michael Smith, PA-C is a Physician Assistant with more than 14 years of experience in orthopaedic surgery.

Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He earned his Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the Northeastern University Bouve College of Health Sciences in Boston.

Michael has been with Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics for over eight years and also works as the Associate Director of Clinical Education for the University Boston Physician Assistant Program. He is a skilled instructor in CPR and ACLS as well as numerous clinical medicine topics. During his free time, Michael enjoys playing men’s league ice hockey and traveling with his family.

In this role, he teaches multiple medical topics as well as practical clinical and diagnostic skills. During the Clinical Phase of the PA Program, Michael works closely with the students to develop and improve their clinical skills. In addition to developing new courses for the curriculum, he also mentors students in their thesis preparation and provides leadership as the Faulty Advisor to the Carl Toney Society, the PA program’s Student Government Association.

Throughout his career as a Physician Assistant educator, Michael has taught in multiple didactic and experiential learning classes and coordinated with other disciplines to increase Interprofessional Experience for the PA students. His main focus was clinical medicine courses, but he was very involved in physical exams and diagnostic skill sessions.

Prior to entering academia in 2015, Michael worked for 13 years as a Physician Assistant specializing in orthopedic surgery in the southern New Hampshire area. Prior to becoming a PA, he was a paramedic proving emergency 911 coverage for several greater Boston communities.

Michael and his wife, also a Physician Assistant, and two sons reside in New Hampshire. When not working, Michael plays goalie in men’s league recreational hockey three to four times per week. In addition, he enjoys traveling with his family and kayaking.
