Fungal Meningitis OutbreakUpdate: As of Friday, 10/19/2012, all patients who received NECC products at any Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics location have now been notified by phone or letter.

October 19, 2012 – The physicians of Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics are in communication with public officials to ensure that we and our patients have the most current information on the national meningitis outbreak associated with injections of certain steroid products.  We care about the health and wellness of our patients and we are doing everything we can to cooperate with state officials as they continue their investigation.

To date, there have been no confirmed reports of infections linked to the NECC products used by Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are contacting patients as we cannot be sure that other products from this facility were sterile.

NECC products used by Access physicians were used exclusively for Joint Injections. The symptoms of infection may include fever, swelling, increasing pain, redness, or warmth at the injection site. Any patients with these symptoms, should seek medical care so that they can be properly evaluated.

We are currently in the process of notifying all Access patients who received an NECC product in their course of treatment.
