Plaistow, NH – Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics would like to invite Plaistow area parents, coaches and athletes to a free discussion on “Proper Management of Sport-Related Concussions”.  The session will take place on Thursday, October 25th at 6:30pm at the newly renovated Access Sports Medicine facility at 13 Plaistow Road in Plaistow.

Dr. Kevin Heaton, the Director of the Sports Concussion program at Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics, will discuss the common signs and symptoms of a sport–related concussion.  He will talk about ImPACT Baseline Testing as a first step in concussion management and the importance of immediate removal from play with a suspected head-injury.  Dr. Heaton will explain the concussion management protocol at Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics, the use of both physical and academic restrictions and the innovative methods that are being used to aid in an athlete’s recovery following a concussion.  A physical therapist will be on-hand to talk about the importance of vestibular rehabilitation and a multi-disciplinary approach to concussion management.  Representatives from the sports medicine program at Northeast Rehabilitation and athletic trainers from Timberlane High School will also be in attendance to answer questions.
